This page contains the data files for the book Applied Regression Analysis, Linear Models, and Related methods by John Fox. We are very grateful to Professor Fox for granting us permission to distribute the data from his book at our web site. If you should write about or otherwise use any of these data files, please credit Professor Fox and the original researchers.
You can obtain the data files in a variety of ways, 1. Downloading all of the files in Stata, 2. Using individual files from Stata, or 3. Getting the files over the web (via this web page). These three methods are described below.
1. Downloading All of the Files in Stata
If you want to download all of the files, we suggest you create a new directory, such as c:ara , and copy the files there. If you wanted to make and use this directory, you would type the following in the Stata command window…
mkdir c:ara cd c:ara
To copy all of the files, type
net from http://www.ats.ucla.edu/stat/stata/examples/ net get ara
2. Using Individual Files from Stata
If you prefer, you can simply use any of the files individually over the internet. The names of the data files are supplied in the Fox book, and they are also shown in the table below. Suppose you wanted to use the chile data file. You would type
3. Getting Files Over the Web
If you prefer, you can get the files over the web from the table shown below. The leftmost column gives you the name of the data file. You can click on the "Stata .dta File" and it will download the Stata .dta File. If you have Stata installed on your computer, and you choose "Open the File" it should read the file right into Stata. The third and fourth columns of the table show the codebook for the data file, and the raw data file.
